As of December 29, hotel occupancy rates averaged 85 percent

According to the latest report from the Cancun, Puerto Morelos & Isla Mujeres Hotel Association, as of December 29, hotel occupancy rates averaged 85 percent. The Association reported for Cancun, hotel occupancy rates hovered around 84.7 percent, while in Puerto Morelos, they were 77.2 percent.

For the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres (Costa Mujeres), hotels averaged an 81.2 percent occupancy rate. The Association says those averages were for the 214 hotels that belong to the Association.

For the last weekend of the year, a full house was anticipated, especially for centrally located options in downtown Cancun.

According to Rebeca Bravo, president of the Downtown Hotel Committee, during the month of December, they averaged a 70 percent occupancy rate, a figure that increased to 75 percent during the New Year weekend.

We are receiving quite mixed tourism. The occupancy rates that they currently have in some cases are already higher than those in 2019 before the pandemic,” Bravo said.

She explained that the city remodeling projects on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard and the cloverleaf at the Cancun International Airport have not effected hotels on that side. She said it has actually been the opposite.

The hotels that are on the airport side, precisely because of all this theme of remodeling, we have seen that they have very strong movement, especially during the last night that tourists spend here to prevent setbacks with their flight” she said.

Bravo added that for the first week of 2023, they anticipate an occupancy of up to 90 percent, which will drop to 65 percent for the second week of January, which is when a majority of people return to work.
