The state of Alaska is the most remote in the United States, and almost half of the land is uninhabited. Airline service is limited, and many rely on smaller air services for survival and transporting goods like food. However, Alaska is still connected by air to several states, with routes extending to New York City and even Frankfurt. This article analyzes the longest routes to and from Alaska.

1. Anchorage - Frankfurt

Served by both Condor and Discover Airlines, the 4,677-mile route from Frankfurt is the longest to any city in Alaska and, according to Cirium, one of two international routes available in 2024 (the other being Air Canada's seasonal service to Vancouver).

Condor, a German carrier focusing on leisure destinations, flies nonstop from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) during the summer, deploying its Airbus A330neos (A330-900) on the route. Meanwhile, Discover, also a leisure carrier, flies the older Airbus A330-200 and -300. Condor begins its service in May and runs through September, while Discover starts in June and goes through September.

2. Anchorage - Atlanta

Flown by Delta Air Lines, the flight from Anchorage to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is the second-longest passenger service from the 'Last Frontier.' The Boeing 757-200s are deployed on the 3,416-mile route, and although the flight takes more than seven hours, lie-flat seats are not available on Delta's flights. The specific configuration deployed on the route has 199 seats in a three-cabin configuration with First Class, Delta Comfort +, and Economy. Flights from Atlanta to Anchorage are available from May through September.

3. Anchorage - New York (JFK)

Alaska Airlines makes its first appearance on this list with its service from Anchorage to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, which is set to debut in June. On this new route, Alaska will deploy its brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8s on the 3,385-mile route, which entered into service today after being delivered in late December 2023. Alaska will not face any competition on this route, as Delta last served it in 2021.

4. Anchorage - Newark

The flight from Anchorage to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is just 16 miles shorter than to JFK and is operated by United Airlines. Like Alaska Airlines, United uses the Boeing 737 MAX 8 for its flights from May to September. This year, United will begin twice-daily services on May 23rd, right before Memorial Day Weekend, and end on Labor Day, closing out the summer.

5. Anchorage - Washington DC

Rounding out the top five is a brand-new route. As Simple Flying reported yesterday, United Airlines will launch nonstop service from Dulles International Airport (IAD) in May. This will be the first-ever route from Washington DC to Alaska and the fifth United hub to serve Anchorage. The 737 MAX 8 is also the aircraft of choice on the 3,356-mile route from May through September.
