From January to October 2022, just over 5.1 million cruise passengers arrived at the different ports in the country

Since the beginning of the year, more than five million cruise ship passengers have arrived at various ports in Mexico. On Tuesday, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that from January to October 2022, just over 5.1 million cruise passengers arrived at the different ports in the country.

He pointed out that the ports of Cozumel, Mahahual, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán captured 94.6 percent of those passengers. The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) reported that during that period, those 5.1 million passengers arrived on 2,041 cruise ships.

Cruise ship passengers spend an average of $75 USD per person on excursions, an increase of 11.1 percent over last year when the average passenger spent $68 USD.

Torruco Marqués added that during the first 10 months of the year, Cozumel registered 864 ships with more than 2.1 million passengers while Mahahual reported the arrival of 363 acruise ships carrying 893,055 cruise passengers.

Other ports included Ensenada, Baja California, with 250 cruise ships and 539,456 passengers, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, with 164 vessels and a total of 356,641 passengers.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, registered the arrival of 130 cruise ships and 305,106 passengers, while in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, 103 ships arrived carrying 272,021 cruise passengers.
